The Problem with Behavioral Science

Many men say that women are complicated. I beg to differ. People in general are complicated. Their histories, emotions, personalities, and views on the world influence behavior. Men, women, blacks, whites, evangelicals, atheists: We are all one. We all have both baser instincts and desires that become muddled with more complex backgrounds, beliefs, and environment. For that reason, One simply cannot predict any one person’s actions. Unlike most animals, we are not entirely ruled by instinct. We are a complex, erratic species. Complicated. But then, that’s all part of the human experience, now isn’t it?

Born to Die- Lana Del Rey

We were born to die. Fatalistic, I know. The fact of the matter is most of us live life for the promise of a future—a selfish one in which we can fade away from the world. Why are so many painfully enduring stress and fatigue related to school? To go to more school afterwards. In college, They will do the same. To get a job after years of “training.” In their occupation, they will work countless hours and endure further stress. To keep their job. They will begin savings accounts and begin to marry, have children, and create 401Ks. They will build their life for the future. All to retire and gain a few years of comfort before they die. So I repeat. We were born to die. Few of us make a mark on this world. Be one of those few. Don’t live to die. Live to linger on this earth. Be exceptional. Don’t become a bleached and aged memory, fading into oblivion. Never allow your name to be forgotten.

Life isn’t always enough. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
